April 22, 2020 – Los Angeles Police chased a driver from downtown Los Angeles to the North Long Beach area on the 91 Freeway. The chase ended with a crash and stand-off, closing the freeway and backing up the 405 Freeway.
According to police reports, the driver was an assault suspect armed with a shotgun. During the chase, the driver had crashed into a vehicle near Central Avenue and then into a pickup. The car was heavily damaged with the front smashed by the time the chase ended near Cherry.
At least a dozen police vehicles surrounded the driver. While the driver refused to surrender, shouting to the police and getting in and out of his vehicle, the SWAT and K-9 teams arrived at the scene.
After an hour-long standoff, officers were able to move in and took the driver into custody.
