Sgt. Phil McMullin of Orange County police arrested Sitani Pinomi, a suspected drunk driver, after hitting and killing a 19-year-old pedestrian while on the crosswalk. Pinomi had a suspended license at the time of the accident and has been convicted of DUI in the past as well.
The car crash happened at around 10:09 PM Wednesday when Pinomi, in his F-250 pickup truck, struck the 19-year-old Aden Uriostegui, who was in the crosswalk on his way home from his job at Starbucks.
A witness told Orange County police that he saw Pinomi in the pickup truck driving south along Tustin Street and did not stop for the red light upon reaching the intersection on Heim, instantly hitting Uriostegui who was already walking on the crosswalk. Uriostegui was pronounced dead at the scene leaving family members devasted and unable to accept his early passing.
According to loved ones, Aden was a recent high school graduate and has dedicated his life being there for others, lending a hand quickly to friends and family when needed. He was excited about college and buying his dream car on his own, but all those were put to an end due to this tragic accident.
The suspect Pinomi remained at the scene after the car crash and was later sent to Orange County Jail while he waits for a trial.
