Two children are in critical condition at the hospital after a Mazda hatchback smashed perpendicularly into a Chevrolet Trailblazer in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the car crash occurred on Avalon Boulevard just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon. The SUV was overturned on its side and “crushed up” against a truck parked along the road. Crews had to rescue 6 people trapped inside. The driver was driving five children “of all ages, as young as an infant” LAFD assistant Chief Jaime Moore explained. He indicated that he expected the two children in critical condition to survive. The other three children did not have major injuries but were “shaken up from being in such a horrific accident,” Moore said.
He also said he thinks the two drivers didn’t see each other coming. Investigators believe it was “just an unfortunate accident.”
