Tension has been brought between YouTube LLC and a group of four black female content creators for their procedures that show discrimination against black creators after removing their content without justification. The federal lawsuit claims that these women have had videos deleted resulting in a decrease of subscribers due to YouTube’s racial bias. The lawsuit is also accusing YouTube for their discrimination policies which include unnecessary age restrictions, excluding black content creators from trending, and filtering creations with keywords.
As George Floyd’s murder enhanced the Black Lives Matter movement, YouTube has funded $100 million to support the Black-owned channels. The four content creators responded that YouTube should use that money to stop the racist policies that permeate the YouTube platform.
YouTube has until July 8, 2020 to respond to the court summons.
