The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has reported more than 6,500 car crashes so far this year. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of speeding-related crashes have been increasing, with fewer motorists on the road.
Though LAPD noted that this is a higher number than last year, their reports show that there are less fatal crashes, a reported number of 150 thus far. There is, however, an increase in severe collisions and speeding-related crashes.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has seen an increase of 87% in citations issued since April to date. Majority of those cited motorists driving at least 100mph.
Officers are advising motorists to slow down and maintain the speed limit to reduce potential collisions, injuries, penalties, and criminal consequences.
