The driver of a Mercedez Benz ran a red light and crashed into a Durango SUV on Perris Boulevard on Monday evening. The Durango hit another vehicle, a Honda Accord, whose driver was waiting to make a right turn on Perris.
The Accord had two passengers, a 75-year old woman and an 8-year old girl. Both passengers suffered major injuries and died at the scene of the crash, while the drivers of the Mercedez Benz and other vehicles only suffered minor injuries.
Police officers suspected that the driver of the Mercedez Benz was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the crash.
In Southern California, Los Angeles holds the record for most deaths involving car accidents. Nationwide DUI statistics show that alcohol is a major crash factor.
