Maria Perez was arrested on Sunday for a hit-and-run that killed a 50-year old man in downtown Los Angeles.
The incident happened on May 7th when Perez hit and killed Byern Smith while he was walking along East 7th Street.
Surveillance video showed Perez pulled over, exited the vehicle, and then immediately drove off. Police officials released the video the week after, announcing a $50,000 reward.
An LAPD officer saw Perez’s white Scion xB, which matched the description of the suspect vehicle, along 7th Street in downtown L.A. and arrested her on Sunday evening. Perez is booked for felony hit-and-run, along with two felony warrants and three misdemeanor warrants.
According to the LAPD, her bail was set at $0, per L.A. County Emergency COVID-19 Directive.
Perez is scheduled to appear in court in August for her hit-and-run felony.
